Cesar Milan Dog Trainer

Dog trainer Cesar
Milan is often referred to as “The Dog Whisperer.” Some have even
gone so far as to call him the “Dr. Phil of Dogs.”
It seems that the Dr.
Phil nickname is most suitable for
Cesar Milan. He is known for
his uncanny ability to train even the most difficult dogs.
Lazy, aggressive, compulsive, scared, jealous. No dog’s personality
quirk is too difficult for dog trainer Cesar Milan to handle.
Cesar Milan got his
nickname “The Dog Whisperer” from his series, Dog Whisper, that
premiered on the National Geographic Channel in 2005.
Besides creating
television shows about his skills, Cesar Milan has also been a dog
trainer to stars like Oprah, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith, Vin
Diesel, Nicolas Cage, Scarlett Johannson, Hillary Duff, Daisy Fuentes,
Annie Potts. He has also trained the dogs of movie directors Ridley
Scott and Michael Bay.
Cesar Milan’s dog
training techniques are so effective because he has an outstanding
understanding of canine pack behavior. His knowledge is based on 20
years of experience and his own pack of up to 50 dogs.
Unlike most dog
trainers who relate to one animal at a time, Cesar Milan uses a pack
mentality -- which is the natural social structure for canines -- to
rehabilitate dogs.
The first step
Cesar Milan uses when training dogs is understanding the way the pack
works and how dogs communicate with one another. He sets the owner
up as the leader of the pack by teaching him how always project calm and
assertive energy. Dog pack leaders are never nervous, panicked or tense.
He teaches the owner
to claim leadership of the pack, or dog, by showing rules, boundaries
and limitations. According to Cesar Milan, dog trainer, setting
boundaries can be as simple as always walking in front of your dog. If
the dog walks in front of you, he’s the leader of the pack and
undermines your authority.
In order to further
emphasize your role as leader of the pack, Cesar Milan says that you
should also know all the nonverbal signals dogs pick up on. Make
feeding a ritual done only after the dog or pack has worked for the
food. Above all, always project a calm, assertive energy.
Dog trainer Cesar
Milan lives in Los Angeles with his wife and two sons. He has a book
published by Harmony Books called Cesar’s Way. It’s full of tips on how
to effectively train domestic canines, even ones considered problem
dogs.
