Border Collie Puppies-Training

A Wet Border Collie PuppyBorder Collies make excellent pets for active individuals who have time to spend with these energetic, intelligent dogs.

While you can get a Border Collie at any age, consider buying a Border Collie as a puppy. If you buy your Border Collie as a puppy, it will be easier to train her and break her of any unpleasant activities before they become habits.

The process of training Border Collie puppies will also be easier on you if you carefully select your puppy. Many well-meaning people will say let the Border Collie puppy choose you. This is a mistake.

If you let Border Collie puppies select you, it’ll be the more brash, forceful and aggressive puppies who will catch your attention first. These types of Border Collie puppies will not take to training very well. They will resist every attempt you make to try to control or guide them.

Even if the more pushy Border Collie puppies seem to love you to pieces, it doesn’t necessarily mean that her personality will suit you or your family. Dynamo Border Collie puppies are fun to play with, but can often be difficult to live with and difficult to train.

Instead spend time with each Border Collie puppy in the litter. Sometimes the most gentle and seemingly timid Border Collie puppies make the best pets. Plus calmer Border Collie puppies make training easy and enjoyable.

While it’s better to choose a calm Border Collie puppy over an aggressive one, make sure that the puppy you select is alert and confident. Be wary if the puppy is staying away from you because she’s afraid of sudden sounds or quick movements. Nervous Border Collie puppies make training very difficult. So do puppies who seem to be avoiding you because they’re completely oblivious to what’s going on around them.

Watch how the Border Collie puppies interact with you in the litter. Then ask the breeder to let you see each puppy away from her littermates. Watch how she reacts when you talk to her. Does she cock her head, look you in the face and seem attentive? Does she wag her tail? Or does she try to get away from you as fast as she can?

The way the puppy reacts with you without her siblings or friends can tell you a lot about her personality. This is important to know because the Border Collie’s personality can significantly impact her role in your family, and how easy it is to train her.
